Hi! In my first article, I talk about how to configure your domain. In my case, I've also created a corporate email related to the domain, because I think the use of a personal email instead of a Gmail, Hotmail, etc. gives a more professional style and permits to distinguish between personal and informal emails.

So, another thing I had to configure is the email account with the domain name. In my case, this part was easy because the domain website I use, dondominio, tells you all the configurations you need.

Steps

  1. Create a new email account at your website provider. You have to decide on the first part of the email, because the part after the @ is your domain, and to generate a password.
  2. Access the webmail. The website provider offers you a webmail platform where you can log in with your new email account. It uses a subdomain 'webmail' before your email. For example, webmail.yourname@yourdomain. com.
  3. Configure your email account with Android, iPhone, Outlook, or other e-mail servers.
  • Go to the app or server and click on "Add an account".
  • Enter your new email.
  • Choose which type of account do you have, POP3 or IMAP. Let's see what's this.

๐Ÿ“Œ POP3 (Post Office Protocol): used to obtain emails, not to send them. The goal was to have access to the emails without an internet connection when download times were important. The steps are: connect to the remote server, obtain all messages, save them to a local server, delete them from the remote server, and disconnect.

๐Ÿ“Œ IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol): allow access to emails stored on an Internet server with any computer or device with an Internet connection until the user deletes them. The advantages compared to POP is the ability to create folders on the server-side, offer access to the same mailbox by multiple clients, and view emails remotely without downloading them.

โ— The best option is IMAP because you can read emails on your smartphone without being deleted off the remote server and later view them on your PC or other devices with an Internet connection.

  • Incoming Mail Server: you can choose between POP or IMAP types. Your website provider shows you the exact name that you have to introduce.

  • Outgoing Mail Server: there is one type, SMTP. Your website provider shows you the exact name that you have to introduce. But let's see what is SMTP.

๐Ÿ“Œ SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol): used to send emails. Is a protocol in which an email sender communicates with an email recipient by establishing a session with an SMTP server where commands are exchanged for data delivery.
